SmackDown Results 1-9-18

SmackDown came in hot and gave Raw a run for its money. I don’t even know where to start. The US Championship is huge right now. The McMahon vs Bryan storyline is even bigger than that and quickly growing into something unimaginable. Oh, then there is the Royal Rumble coming up. Everything is explained below. Enjoy!

  • Becky Lynch def. Ruby Riott via disqualification
  • The Bludgeon Brothers def. The Ascension
  • Mojo Rawley def. Zack Ryder in a First Round United States Championship Tournament Match
  • Breezango def. Rusev & Aiden English
  • AJ Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura & Randy Orton def. Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn

Best Match- AJ Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura & Randy Orton def. Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn

The Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan drama has spilled into the main roster. Thankfully because it created this awesome main event matchup. It had five top guys competing in one match. This was a no brainer for Best Match.

Worst Match- The Bludgeon Brothers def. The Ascension

I actually missed this match. I went to the bathroom as they were entering the ring and grabbed a drink. In that short time The Bludgeon Brothers were already celebrating a victory. They are like the old school Goldberg of the tag team division “Who’s Next”

Best Promo- Corey Graves

This might not be a popular pick but hear me out. I know Graves is an announcer but he talks wrestling for 5 hours each week. This guy sells more storylines than some of the superstars cutting promos for their own storyline. Last night Corey Graves set the standard for all pro wrestling announcers. Corey makes Raw and SmackDown much better and I hope he sticks around for a long time. On a side note Corey makes Enzo relevant!

Worst Promo- Shelton Benjamin & Chad Gable

They whined and they cried. Then they got a championship match locked down for the Royal Rumble PPV. The promo wasn’t horrible but I did find it annoying at times.

Big Announcements-

  1. Shelton Benjamin & Chad Gable vs Tag Team Champions The Usos confirmed for Royal Rumble PPV
  2. The Godfather is scheduled to be at Raw 25th Anniversary
  3. As promised more Royal Rumble posts are coming soon!

All of the Rest-   Becky Lynch def. Ruby Riott via disqualification in what appears to be a solid feud. This has potential to be a great rivalry in 2018 if booked properly. Mojo Rawley def. Zack Ryder in a First Round United States Championship Tournament Match. The staredown between Mojo and Bobby Roode at the end was perfect. Breezango def. Rusev & Aiden English in a close second for “Worst Match” to be honest. Overall it was a great show.

Overall Show Grade- B-
